In this issue we publish articles on three famous hospitals and three notable physicians; on the disabilities of John Milton, Charles Dickens, and the Emperor Claudius; and on how art makes us better people and syphilis does not. We read about tuberculosis and the myth of vampirism; women in healthcare during the Ottoman Empire; the Order of the Hospitallers; and attitudes towards pregnancy and childbirth in Victorian England, the Soviet Union, and ancient Egypt.

We thank the contributors to the Fifth Hektoen Essay Competition. The articles are being evaluated and the winner will be announced in June.
We also continue to invite our readers to send new articles for the various sections in Hektorama. Please send articles to journal@hektoeninternational.org.
